Man on the Moon
As promised, we now have proof of the lengths the moon man will go to prove us all wrong. We felt he was scruffy, uncouth and without taste. He has at least disproved the first one but the jury is still is still out on the last two counts.
At least he is a good sport and actually turned up in his new dressing up clothes. When he wore them last week and he received such a ribbing, I didn’t think he would dare to wear them again. It was just a great pity that his girl friend’s contribution of a matching umbrella was destroyed on the fourth tee last week. She asked hi why he would use such a valued gift as a bright blue and yellow chequered brolly in the wind and rain. He merely pointed out that was what they were intended for. In fairness to her the wind was enough to keep the squirrels out of the trees. A Chinese manufactured umbrella was no match.
Martin purchased his gear from a website in the USA called golf knickers. Only the Americans would call them knickers. He felt it was £150 well spent. This was a matter of opinion that was fully debated in the bar afterwards and the motion failed by eighteen votes to one. In any case, his wearing the outfit was likely to do nothing for future sales.
When we sat at the far end of the clubhouse, I noticed the same people trailing back and forth from the toilets craning their necks to get a good look at him. The junior section thought he had turned up for the children’s’ party.
He sat himself under the wide screen TV and Jason Bradbury unkindly asked him to move as he couldn’t watch the football for the glare.
He is off to Florida on holiday this week with his brother. We wondered why he wasn’t taking his girl friend with him. She is a big girl for her age and he said he didn’t want to pay for the excess baggage. I didn’t think this was very nice and I told him so. I only repeated it so he didn’t get too much sympathy.
He may look gormless but he has a sharp wit. He waved his goodbyes and said, “See you in a couple of weeks.”
He wryly commented that he was off to Disney land and Mickey Mouse wears a Martin Moon watch.
